Dettagli sul corso

Aortic valve disease in young patients still represents an unresolved clinical challenge. Current surgical options, such as replacement with mechanical or biological prostheses, present significant limitations in terms of durability, the need for anticoagulation, and long-term quality of life.
In this context, innovative techniques such as aortic neocuspidization according to Ozaki, which involves the  reconstruction of the aortic valve with autologous pericardium treated with glutaraldehyde, are
emerging. This method, introduced with the aim of offering a durable, biocompatible solution without the need for anticoagulant therapy, is gaining increasing interest, especially for younger or pediatric patients. At the same time, the Ross procedure, historically reserved for selected young cases, finds in the combination with the Ozaki technique - in the so-called “fully autologous Ross-Ozaki” approach - a possible evolution capable of uniting the hemodynamic and biological benefits of both techniques. The experience gained in recent years at GVM centers has made it possible to collect significant data on the efficacy and safety of the Ozaki procedure, with promising long-term results.

This course aims to:
• Provide a comprehensive update on the management of aortic valve
disease in young patients;
• Critically discuss the current and future role of the Ozaki technique,
alone or in combination with the Ross procedure;
• Share the clinical experience gained at the national level;
• Offer a practical session with live surgery and drylab simulation,
aimed at learning the fundamental technical steps

Through the participation of experts and the opportunity for direct discussion, the event aims to contribute to the dissemination and optimization of these techniques, with the ultimate goal of improving surgical outcomes in young patients with aortic disease.
